Hands-on only

betterATbeing is proud to offer a high-quality Alexander Technique learning experience, in the form of private, hands-on lessons.

This is the most effective and cost-efficient way to learn the Technique.

Teacher and student must provide proof of vaccination, wear a mask, and agree not to show up on site if they have symptoms of any kind.

COVID-19 safety is determined according to regulations applied to hair salons, which pose a similar level of risk. If you are now visiting a hair salon, you will be just as safe visiting the betterATbeing studio for an AT lesson.

How often should lessons be scheduled?

How often should lessons be scheduled?

AT lessons cost less, and are worth more, the more often and the longer you take them. Meeting at least once weekly is recommended.

Meeting twice or more per week will turn up the volume on the learning experience, and fees are discounted by agreement.

Between lessons:

  • Email your teacher with questions.
  • Daily practice reinforces your skills.
  • Twice-daily sessions of semi-supine "active rest" (a self-directed process) refresh and guide you for better self-use in your upright activities.

How many lessons are enough?

Your AT skills will be there for you - for life

How often should lessons be scheduled?

Learning Alexander Technique is comparable to taking up a musical instrument. How many lessons you will need depends on what you want to achieve.

But here are some useful benchmarks:

  • One lesson will tell you quite a bit about what AT is like and how it works;
  • Three to six lessons will provide an introduction to AT principles you can practice yourself. Then you can decide whether you would like to continue studying;
  • Six lessons can offer significant benefit for back pain, per a major peer-reviewed study.

Going the distance is well worth it

Your AT skills will be there for you - for life

Thirty AT lessons is the number frequently cited as the minimum needed to firmly establish better use of the self, which can be maintained with continued practice in daily activity.

Thirty lessons may sound like a lot. But it's not.

Not when you consider that most people beginning lessons have developed habits of bad self-use over a period of decades - a lifetime.

Changing your habits won't take a lifetime.

And each lesson takes you that much farther toward a more graceful engagement with every task you take on.

Your AT skills will be there for you - for life

Many people find they enjoy AT so much that they continue their lessons long after their first 30 lessons are over.

There is always more to learn. And the more you improve your AT skills, on your own or with your teacher, the more you will appreciate being alive.

AT doesn't get boring. No matter how long you practice it, it's always new.

Best of all, as you learn it, AT will become yours. It comes with you, wherever you go, to use whenever you need it most. Always.
